WHAT IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING?

Human trafficking is a severe and pervasive form of modern-day slavery that involves the recruitment, transportation, and exploitation of individuals, primarily for sexual or labor purposes. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), an estimated 21 million people are victims of forced labor globally, with the majority being women and girls.

Victims of human trafficking often face physical and emotional abuse, sexual exploitation, and forced labor under inhumane conditions. They may be subject to debt bondage, where they must work to repay debts that can never be paid off, or held captive through physical and psychological means.

Human trafficking is a global issue, with victims being trafficked both domestically and internationally. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that trafficking routes exist across the world, with Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Middle East being particularly affected.

It is crucial to understand the signs of human trafficking and to report suspected cases to authorities. Some of the indicators include physical abuse, coercion, deception, and restrictions on movement. Organizations such as the Polaris Project and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) provide resources and support for victims of human trafficking and work to prevent and combat this crime.

In conclusion, human trafficking is a heinous crime that violates human rights and exploits vulnerable individuals for profit. We must raise awareness of this issue and take action to prevent and combat it.
